IDEAL PROVER

The word Ideal means most suitable to something. where as a Prover is a person upon whom the proving is being carried out.

The symptoms which we have acquired from proving of drug substances are the only and main source of our homoeopathic Materia medica.

This is why proving of drug substances is most essential job which requires significant caution and reliability in its implementation.

The following qualities should be strictly followed,

  1. Healthy prover.
  2. Human being.
  3. Literate person.
  4. Reliable in quality.
  5. Unprejudiced observer.
  6. Careful in recording.
  7. Sensitive in perception.

Let’s discuss these qualities in detail.

1. Healthy prover

The subjects or persons of experiment must be free from any disease condition.

This is because, if the drug substances are proved on sick persons, the symptoms produced by the drug substances and the symptoms of disease may blend together.

This may cause difficulty in distinguishing the symptoms of disease and drug substance.

Hence, the exact symptoms produced by drug substances cannot be differentiated.

2. Human being

We can have following advantages by proving the drug substances on human beings.

  • We can study both mental symptoms and subjective symptoms.
  • We can record individual and characteristic symptoms produced by the drug substances.
  • We can observe and record the individual modalities of the drug substances.
  • Besides, if something is harmful or effective on animal provers, it may not be necessarily true for humans.

3. Literate person

A literate person understands what exactly he/she has experienced and observed on his/her body or mind.

They can express and describe their sensations in accurate terms.

4. Reliable in quality

Honesty is the first essential quality of an ideal prover.

A prover must avoid any suspicion, imaginary sensations or exaggeration of actual physical or mental symptoms produced by drugs.

5. Unprejudiced observer

Being prejudiced means he/she is free from any pre-existing thoughts or belief.

An unprejudiced mind of prover makes it possible to observe, collect and record with considerable carefulness and awareness.

6. Careful in recording

A prover must be careful in observing and recording of alterations produced by drug substances.

7. Sensitive in perception

A prover must be sensitive enough to perceive the alteration in sensations and functions at mental or physical plane that are produced by the drug substance being proved.

It was Dr. Hahnemann who tested the drug substances on himself first time.

Later many renowned medical practitioners and Homeopaths joined him to carry this noble practice.

It was their tireless and continuous efforts with precise observations which laid down the foundation of an Ideal Prover.
