SUPPRESSION IN HOMOEOPATHY

Theory of suppression in homoeopathy is given too much importance because homeopathy is a wholistic medical science in which the treatment is given to the man in disease but not to the disease in man.

DISEASE AND ITS PROGRESS

Every living organism has a natural instinct to survive.

There are two types of forces out of which one always tries to reduce or shorten the life while other force tries to extend or prolong the life.

Darwin’s law of “Survival of the Fittest” also indicates that every living organism has its own immune system that is ruled by the living force which is known as vital force among homoeopaths.

Vital force in the living organism constantly maintains homeostasis (dynamic equilibrium of the internal bodily environment) in different environmental conditions.

Read, What is Homeostasis in detail by following the link.

Any disturbance with homeostatic mechanism creates a condition which we call ‘Disease’.

disease in suppression- in homoeopathy

How the disease takes place?

  1. Lowered/ compromised/ suppressed vital force.
  2. Overpowering natural disease force that gets progressed (cannot be defended by vital force).

Read THE CONCEPT OF HEALTH AND DISEASE IN HOMOEOAPTHY in detail.

How the disease gets progressed?

Vital force uses its all the energy to keep the disturbing forces away from the organism.

If the vitality gets lowered or disturbing forces are overpowering, vital force is forced to allow dysfunction in the organism.

Initially vital force tries to keep the structural changes limited to those tissues/organs/systems which are of lesser importance.

So that more important and vital body parts can remain as much healthy as possible.

If disease/disturbing forces continues overpowering, vital force fails to prevent them going into deeper and deeper organs or systems.

HOW CURE TAKES PLACE?

Ideal cure means

  1. Total annihilation of the diseased state.
  2. Permanent removal of the morbific agent which caused the disease.
  3. Complete restoration of previous healthy state.

Read the detailed explanation on THE CONCEPT OF CURE IN HOMOEOPATHY so you can clearly understand the Herings law of cure and Suppression of disease.

Hering’s law helps us to analyse the direction in which the symptoms of the patient should disappear while under homoeopathic medications.

Hering explains that symptoms of the disease should disappear from

  • Above-downwards
  • Inside-outwards
  • From more important organs to less important one
  • Symptoms disappear in the reverse order of their appearance (the first appeared symptoms disappears at last).

Mere removal of the discomforting symptoms of the disease cannot be considered as an ideal cure.

Ref:

A.P.U.D. SYSTEM: AMINE PRECURSOR UPTAKE AND DECARBOXYLATION SYSTEM

C.V.S.: CARDIO VASCULAR SYSTEM

With the progress of disease cellular toxins are pushed higher and higher through these 7 layers.

Toxins are pushed upwards every time when a disease is suppressed.

This transport of toxins is assisted by cell membrane proteins.

It requires ATP,  as it is against of nutritive gradient.

The stored energy gets used up in the form of ATP that was needed for natural cellular activities.

The end result is weakness.

Any disease treatment that is followed by weakness induce suppression.

WHAT IS SUPPRESSION?

Suppression word is a Latin derivative of  “Supprimere”  which means “to press down /stop forcibly”.

WHAT IS SUPPRESSION OF DISEASE?

Forcible removal of disease manifestations before the disease itself is cured.

Suppression is not a good condition.

By the process of suppression disease symptoms diverts from least important organs to the most important organs.

This is total against the “Hering’s law of cure”.

TYPES OF SUPPRESSION

Disease can get progressed in 5 ways thus suppressions are of 5 types.

  1. Location to location
  2. One organ to another organ, in same system
  3. System to system in same layer
  4. System to system but in different layer
  5. Miasmatic progress of disease

Location to location

Here, disease gets transferred in the same organ.

E.g., a spot of Eczema on upper limb gets better and appears on the lower limb.

One organ to another organ, in same system

e.g., 1. Nasopharynx to larynx or bronchioles.

  1. Mouth to oesophagus or stomach.

One system to another system, in same layer

e.g., tonsillitis to diarrhoea or urinary tract infection

One system to another system but in different layer

e.g., complain of GIT (endodermal origin) gets better and patient now suffers from hair fall or joint pain (mesodermal origin).

Miasmatic progress of disease

Here, disease of one miasm develops into another Miasmatic disease.

e.g., psora to sycosis.

A young girl having complain of recurrent tonsillitis gets better and starts developing warts.

WAYS OF SUPPRESSION

ways of disease suppression-in homoeopathy

What is natural suppression?

Normal bodily functions get inhibited due to some natural environmental factors.

Examples

  • Suppression of menstrual flow after fright
  • Sleeplessness (insomnia) from grief
  • Perspiration checked from chill

 What is artificial suppression?

Natural bodily functions get inhibited by insincere or forced medical treatments.

By external application

Prolong use of liniments, ointments, lotions, glycerol etc. on skin manifestations of the disease causes it to take inward direction and makes it impossible to cure.

By harmful internal treatment

Prolong use of large doses of allopathic medicines drive the symptoms deepest and towards the vital organs of body.

Of natural secretions of the body

Natural bodily secretions like sweat, menses, etc gets suppressed by medicinal powders or steroid hormones.

Now natural elementary channels get blocked and body tries to eliminate waste products from other possible channels.

As a result, the homeostatic balance of body gets disturbed that leads to constitutional defects.

By surgical removal of disturbing organs

Sometimes surgical removal of tonsils, adenoids, piles, fistula, warts, corns etc. that are the end product of disease (but not the disease itself) weakens the vital energy of the body.

Just removal of disturbed organ can not be considered as a cure.

Of different Miasmatic states

Removal of primary manifestation of psora, sycosis or syphilis by external means causes the development of secondary manifestations of each miasm.

BAD EFFECTS OF DISEASE SUPPRESSION

  • Mere removal of external signs and symptoms of disease causes actual picture of it get changed, misguided or vague.
  • Prolong suppressive treatment of disease makes it incurable one.
  • Disease get wrong direction of cure in which vital organs gets involved.

TREATMENT OF SUPPRESSED CASES

Step 1: Thorough case taking

Step 2: Make totality of symptoms carefully

Step 3: Repertorise the case

Step 4: Select the most similimum by following the cardinal principles of homoeopathy

Step 5: Follow the 12 observations of Dr. J T Kent to analyze the progress of case.
