CONCEPT OF HEALTH AND DISEASE ACCORDING TO HOMOEOPATHY

Before we discuss on the 2nd Aphorism of organon of medicine it is necessary to understand the CONCEPT OF HEALTH AND DISEASE.

Definition of Health According to WHO (1948):

“A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

According to Homoeopathy, in the healthy condition of man, whole living organism is governed by a dynamic force (Which is known as Vital Force).

This force organizes the harmony of entire organism which results in the feeling of normal sensations and functions.

According to Dr. Stuart Close,

“Health is that balanced condition of the living organism in which the integrated, harmonious performance of the vital functions tends to the preservation of the organism and the normal development of the individual”.

WHAT IS DISEASE? HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

When we expose to any type of environmental changes, our vital force tries to maintain the harmony within us.

But, the strength of our vital force (to maintain internal harmony) has its own limits.

If it gets overpowered by those environmental changes, the vital force lacks its strength to maintain the normal functionality within us.

  • So, what happens when this dynamic force loses its control?

Previous internal co-ordination within organism gets changed, which may obstruct or harm the normal growth and development of an individual.

This results in failure of maintaining the normal bodily functions.

When our body exposes to any type of imbalance or disturbances, it immediately starts reflecting on the external plane (bodily level).

Examples;

  • We may feel itching of the skin.
  • We may feel acidity inside our stomach.
  • We may experience hair fall or episodes of headache.

If the disturbance persists and vital force is unable to regain its strength, our disease may turn into chronic complains.

  • We complain of constipation for now and then (In worst condition we may develop piles or fissures).
  • We may observe development of psoriatic patches on our skin.
  • Our hair may turn grey at early age.
  • We may become a patient of migraine.

There are lots of examples you can tag here.

These feelings (subjective or objective) are abnormal, painful or discomforting.

They are signs and symptoms of underlying disease condition.

This disease condition is due to the internal disturbance of the vital force.

In other words, “Disease per se (Disease itself) is nothing but the alteration in the healthy state of an individual”- said by Dr. Hahnemann.

CONCEPT OF DISEASE

Exposure to unfavorable environment

Abnormal vital process

Disturbance in the harmonious state of mind and body

Feeling of uneasiness and discomfort

Outwardly reflected through the material body in the form of signs and symptoms
